NO FIREWORK IN LAKE LIMERICK COUNTRY CLUB
June – September 2021
The Lake Limerick Country Club Board of Directors is asking all members, tenants and guests for their help this summer to reduce fire risk by not using fireworks between now and September. This includes the Fourth of July.
At an emergency meeting June 27, 2021, the Board approved Resolution 2021-01 “No Fireworks in Lake Limerick Country Club”. The Resolution states that the use of legal and illegal fireworks represents a noxious and nuisance activity and as such is a violation of the Declaration of Restrictions which are binding on all members of Lake Limerick.
Violations of the Declarations of Restrictions can result in fines up to $1,000, loss of Member in Good Standing status which can result in loss of services from Lake Limerick, and/or other legal actions.
The Resolution is based on findings related to the fire hazard this year:
- This year’s historic hot weather and lack of rainfall creates an extremely high fire risk.
- Fire risk has caused Mason County to issue a Burn Ban.
- Recognition that the Lake Limerick water system, as designed and constructed in the 1960s, cannot adequately support fire suppression flows to the installed fire hydrants. Additional fire tender fill stations Lake Limerick is establishing on both sides of Mason Lake Road will not be completed until after July 4th. We have also experienced two unexpected pump failures in the last 2 weeks, one of which has been repaired. There are no quick or inexpensive fixes for the system.
- The use of legal (consumer) and illegal (non-consumer) fireworks like bottle rockets, fire crackers, and display fireworks (aerial shells) greatly increase the risk of accidental fires.
- Discharging illegal fireworks in the Lake Limerick community, while popular with some members, has always been against the law.
If there is a catastrophic fire in Lake Limerick, some members will lose places they come to for recreation, and, in some cases, places where they use fireworks they cannot use at their homes. Others who are full-time residents can lose their homes and all their possessions. While either outcome is bad, losing homes and possibly lives would be tragic.
The Lake Limerick Board of Directors knows that most members will act in the best interests of the community and understand the community must respond to circumstances which threaten members’ lives, property and quality of life. We also know some folks don’t seem to get the message or don’t care. Documented reports of violations (signed complaints preferably accompanied by photos or video) can result in fines up to $1,000, loss of Member in Good Standing status with possible loss of Lake Limerick services (which include water), and/or other legal action.
