CANCELLED ANNUAL FISHING DERBY
CANCELLED ANNUAL FISHING DERBY
As we are all well aware, the Coronavirus pandemic has significantly impacted our normal activities at Lake Limerick. One of the impacts has been to our annual fishing derby, typically the fourth Saturday in April.
For the first time in our memory, fishing is closed throughout the state and is not scheduled to reopen until the Governor lifts the closure. Due to this situation, we were forced to suspend our annual derby and have struggled since that time with a decision to either reschedule it for later in the year or cancel it until next year.
The LLCC BOD on April 18 approved a recommendation from The Derby Committee and the Lake Dam Committee to cancel the derby until next year. This was done with mixed feelings but with the best interest of community members in mind. We look forward to an outstanding event in 2021. On a brighter note, the LLCC BOD recently approved a similar recommendation of completed the annual fish plant typically done just prior to the derby. This planting has been accomplished, so when fishing does open (and it will) there will be a good opportunity to catch trout in our lakes. We have also confirmed that the state will be completing their annual planting of 7800 trout in the near future.
Thank you,
