Greenbelts & Trails Committee sponsored presentation soon!
The Greenbelts and Trails Committee will once again be sponsoring a presentation on salmon migration and the part our dam, lakes and streams play in that annual event. A representative of the Squaxin Island Tribe will facilitate the talk, date TBA. While details are being worked out, the Committee wanted to share the information we received from Daniel Snyder of the Squaxin Island Natural Resources Department.
The tribe is primarily monitoring wild spawning coho and are looking at installing the trap a lot later than usual. This will help bypass the high influx of chum salmon seen in the last few years. So, if you like to look at the dam and watch for the trap in the fall, be patient. It may appear a bit later even if the chum are running in their usual timeframe!
